Sagardwip is located just around 123 km from Kolkata and can be reached via railways, roadways, and waterways.

By Road:

  • Take Diamond Harbour Road from Kolkata and drive around 90 km to reach the Harwood ferry point near Kakdwip.
  • If you are using a private car, take a left turn to catch the bypass road from Shirakol. On that road at Usthi Bazar, take a right turn and again just after 100 meters take the left turn, which leads up to Hotuganj. By catching this road you can bypass Dimond harbor city and save a 10 km journey and save at least an hour.
  • This road will lead to Harwood point, also called Lot No.8. There are several jetty ghats, please ask the locals which Ferry ghat is active for public transportation.

By Rail:

  • The nearest major railway stations are Howrah Stn and Sealdah Station.
  • From there, take a train to Kakdwip or Namkhana.
  • However, it’s not well connected with the rest of the country. Irrespective of which station you choose, the journey until Sagardwip will still be a combination of taxi, bus, and ferry.
  • I hope this helps! All the Sealdaha to Laksmikantapur locals change their board and almost all trains go to Namkhana on a regular basis. So, you can also catch this train which has frequent service through out the day.
  • You can take battery-operated rickshaws to go from Kakdwip station to Lot No-8 ferry ghat. The distance is about 2 km. Rickshow charge Rs. 20-25 per head.

By Air:

  • The nearest major airport is Kolkata Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU), around 142 km from Ganga Sagar (Sagardwip).
  • From the airport, take a cab or bus to Kakdwip, which is about 35.5 km away from Gangasagar, and complete the rest of the journey by ferry.

Transportation Inside Island:

Traveling on Sagar Island is not a problem. Small share cars and batteries or manual rickshaws are easy to find. And so are private cars. Just be sure that the fares are fixed in advance.
