ISKCON Gangasagar: A Tribute to the Generosity of Late Govind Sahai Gupta and His Family.

ISKCON Gangasagar is a project that aims to create a cultural and Vedic educational centre at Sagar Island, West Bengal, India. It will offer various facilities and programs for the pilgrims and the local people, such as a temple, a museum, a theatre, a library, a guest house, a restaurant, a gift shop, a Vedic school, an organic farm, an eco-friendly environment, and a charitable wing.

This project is possible because of the generous donations and support of many well-wishers and patrons from different backgrounds. We are thankful to everyone who has contributed to this project in any way.

We would like to especially thank our principal donor Mr Amit Gupta and his mother Smt Sushila Devi Gupta. They are continuing the legacy of Late Govind Sahai Gupta, who was a renowned businessman and philanthropist in Kolkata.

Late Govind Sahai Gupta was very successful in his field and became one of the leading industrialists in India and abroad. He was also very kind and compassionate towards the needy and the underprivileged. He supported many social and religious causes such as education, health care, cow protection, temple construction, etc. He donated funds to build ISKCON Mayapur Annadan Complex Hall, where thousands of people are fed free meals every day throughout the year.

He was also very devoted to Lord Krishna and His devotees. He was inspired by the teachings and activities of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada , the founder-acharya of ISKCON. He regularly visited ISKCON Mayapur temple and supported various projects globally. He had a special attraction for Sagar Island , where Lord Kapila Deva , an incarnation of Lord Krishna, instructed His mother Devahuti on the science of self-realization. He wanted to build a new Krishna temple and a centre there for the benefit of the pilgrims and the local people. The State Government of West Bengal donated 3.6 acres of land to ISKCON for this purpose and he pledged to donate funds for the construction of the project.

Sadly, he left this world before seeing his dream come true. However, his family members fulfilled his wish by donating generously for the project. His son Mr Amit Gupta took over his business and also his role as the principal donor of ISKCON Gangasagar. His mother Smt Sushila Devi Gupta also supported him wholeheartedly in this noble cause. His daughter Smt Asha Kotaria and other family members also supporting to the project.

We are very grateful to Late Govind Sahai Gupta and his family for their magnanimity and kindness towards ISKCON Gangasagar. They have shown how one can serve Lord Krishna and His devotees by using one’s wealth and resources in a positive way. They have also earned immense merit and blessings from Lord Krishna and His devotees for their service.

We pray that Lord Krishna may always protect them and shower them with His grace. We also invite you to join us in this glorious service by donating or volunteering for ISKCON Gangasagar. Please contact us for more information.

Hare Krishna!
